Karina Renteria
Artist Statement
With this body of work, “Damnatio Aeterna”, I want to illustrate and showcase my interpretation of the punishments described in various poems of Dante Alighieri.
Being greatly influenced by the dark, religious themes and imagery in artwork created during the renaissance, rococo, and romantic eras, I have decided to focus on the seven deadly sins, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride, because they are natural human emotions that anyone can feel in excess.
My work consists of various medium such as silk screen, sculpture, and drawing, using pastels and colored pencils to achieve the finished piece.
While exploring the punishment of sin and the human form depicted in a long-suffering manner, using the literary works of Dante as my inspiration, I have created artwork that radiates a violent yet beautiful visual experience.
Hi Karina! I love the pieces you did for the show, as well as your artistic statement! How did you do the snake? All of your pieces are so beautiful. Your exhibit is very deep and everything ties well together conceptually. Wow! Many blessings! Dr. Kathy Bussert-Webb (Wr were in two 3D classes together.)
